Colourpop Haul + Shipping to the Philippines

You cannot imagine the joy I feel writing this post.

Getting this particular package has been quite taxing, which made me realize how spoiled I've been from ordering from both local and online sites such as Bon Marche, Make Up Pro, and Sephora. It's been a long time coming, but I can finally share with you my Colourpop Haul!

In the event that you're unfamiliar, Colourpop is an affordable make-up brand from LA that makes amazing products, especially their lip and eye products. I've wanted to try their products for a long time, but international shipping only became available this year! I could have purchased from online stores in the PH but the prices were always so inflated. -_-

Come November, their Black Friday sale combined with their international shipping promo was enough for me (and my friends, thank you Tari and Bella for hoarding with me) to take a chance and finally try their products!

Note: if you're here for the haul, just skip the next few paragraphs ahead. 

Buying Experience

I ordered as per normal and used my PayPal account to pay. Normally, Colourpop takes 3-5 days to process your order before shipping it out, but the Black Friday + Cyber Monday sale slowed it down to 8 days. This is forgivable to me as I can imagine the massive inflow of orders they received at this time. 

As soon as my order was confirmed, I got an invoice plus the tracking number for USPS or the US Postal Service. 

Shipping to the Philippines

Now this is where it gets a bit...messy. Colourpop estimated 15-21 business days (meaning not counting weekends and holidays) for the order to arrive. While I was able to track my package as it moved from Canada to Santa Clarita to Los Angeles, as soon as the package left the US, all tracking updates stopped. This isn't their fault, more on the PH Post really. 

See, the Philippine Postal System is very outdated, and this is me putting it lightly. It takes ages for packages to arrive and they can never be tracked unless an external courier (such as LBC, DHL, FedEx, etc) is used. I knew this well before ordering but I underestimated just how slow it was going to be. I do realize that it was Christmas time, but the package shipped out December 9. I should've gotten it at least before the end of the year. 

Claiming the Package

I received my postal notice on January 12 (!!!!). Yes, they will not deliver it to your house. You have to go pick it up at the post office. I got mine at the Quezon City Central Post Office. They will indicate to you what window you have to go to, where they will check your IDs and let you sign in their logbooks (log. books. No joke).

After waiting for them to retrieve it from the stock room, the customs officer will call out your name and open the package in front of you. They're checking to see for any suspicious content. Afterwards, all you have to do is pay the storage fee (not sure why I have to pay this considering its my package?) and you're done. I went in the afternoon and took about thirty minutes.

Know this now - don't order more than 10 lip products. The FDA put out a memorandum that anything more than 10 lip products will be confiscated by customs. Why is this the case? I'm not sure, but best to be safe than sorry! Luckily my friends and I only had 4 (plus the free lip glosses makes 6) so this was not an issue.

Another note is that Customs + Philpost should not charge you anything more than PHP 112. There is a law that states that packages worth lower than PHP 10 000 for personal use is non-taxable. They should indicate the amount you have to pay on the postal notice. Don't let them charge you anything more than that!

Whew. Okay. Pain over, breathe! Let's move on to the good stuff!

Actual Haul (yay)

Unfortunately the entire box is not mine. :( I ordered 2 eyeshadows and 2 cheek products as these were the things I've been eyeing since I heard of Colourpop.

As the order was processed late, I got two free minis of lipglosses!

These notes are probably randomized but...how did you know I liked cats, Colourpop?

It's a bit messed up now because I opened it prior to taking pictures (oops) but luckily, everything arrived in good condition! It was very exciting to receive a package with this many things, even if they're not all for me. Another time, perhaps?

From left to right, I got their Super Shock Eyeshadow in Game Face, their Highlighter in Butterfly Beach (isn't that such a cute name?), Blush in Aphrodisiac, and another Super Shock Eyeshadow in Hammered.

Game Face is described as a 'true penny copper' while Hammered is a 'blackened olive with gold sparkles'. Both are very creamy and apply beautifully on the lids. I find it works best with a finger vs a synthetic brush, and it's much faster. 

Honestly I did this haul purely for Game Face alone and I'm already so happy. You have no idea how long I have wanted a penny copper eyeshadow. Hammered is a bit darker than I was expecting but its beautiful nonetheless.

Aphrodisiac is described as a 'soft beige' while Butterfly Beach is a 'warm peach with silver highlights'. The blush is pigmented but not overly so, and is best applied with a synthetic duo fibre brush. The highlighter on the other hand is a lot more pigmented, and I personally prefer using my fingers for application. 

I've been looking for a neutral blush/contour and Aphrodisiac hits that spot perfectly. It's definitely cool toned but not so much so that it looks off on my warm skin. It's also easy to blend and really adds colour while still providing a bit of structure to the face.

Butterfly Beach on the other hand is simply beautiful! It really catches the light and blends into the skin seamlessly. I normally don't wear highlighter as my skin enjoys producing all those natural oils for me, but for this, I'm willing to make an exception. It also looks beautiful on the bridge of the nose, inner eye corners, and on top of the cupid's bow!

All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchases and I'll definitely be ordering more soon. It might be better though if I wait for friends or relatives to come home from America as I really don't want to deal with package claiming and all the anxious waiting again. Quick Review: Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder

As much as I enjoy doing in depth reviews, sometimes I just want you all to know about a product without going into too much detail. Its also great for older products especially popular ones, as I'm sure many of you have read a million or two reviews at this point. 

On the chopping block today is the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder. Hailed as the drugstore dupe for the Chanel Les Beiges Powder, it has rightfully earned its fame as one of the best products from the drugstore. 

It's housed in a slim compact plus a mirror that is easy to take around for touch-ups (and touch-ups can happen with this, as it never looks cakey when applied over old makeup). It is finely milled aka close to undetectable when applied on the skin, and doesn't make foundation bunch up or collect after hours of wear. I find that this fairs well with oil control, as it takes a bit longer for my natural oils to shine through with this, especially after touch-ups! I've had this for four months now and it looks like I haven't made a dent, so it looks like it's going to last a while with me.

I will say that at 11.99 EUR/13.3 USD/649 PHP, its quite pricey for something categorized as "drugstore". It is advertised as 'hypoallergenic' but it is scented, so stay clear if you are someone who reacts easily to scented products. It is also (to my knowledge) only available in the UK and Ireland, so it isn't as easily acceptable as I would have liked. 

Nonetheless, it's easy to say that I'm quite smitten with this powder and I'm glad that it is as good as it was hyped up to be. I've been recommending this to everyone who will listen, and that's quite rare for me considering I hold very few products in high esteem.

Whats in My Travel Makeup Bag (Ireland/England Edition)

As I write this, I am currently fighting jet lag and waiting for dinner in Ireland. As it is the summer for most of the northern hemisphere, I thought it would be helpful for you all to see what I brought to Ireland with me on this month-long trip. It's the longest I've been away from home and I knew that makeup-wise, I had to bring products that I knew I could rely on and were multi-purpose.

I'm pretty good at packing the essentials (clothes-wise) so I had a bit more room for beauty products such as skin care, hair care, and make-up. I separated the items as follows: face, eyes, and lips. I've written my lists over and over again until I finally cut it down to a more or less acceptable number for each category. It may seem either too few or too excessive, but I find that I'm neither restricted nor overwhelmed with what I brought.

Face

Gasp! One primer, one foundation, and one powder? I was strictest with these items because I was going to buy tons while I was here. I also tend to bring too much whenever I travel, so I wanted something I was sure would work no matter what climate. 

The Etude House Good Bye Pore Ever Primer Essence has been a long time favourite of mine and is something I always come back to. It also pairs beautifully with the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint as it provides a layer of hydration and makes the tinted moisturizer look even more seamless and skin-like. The Maybelline Master Conceal while lacking in high coverage, makes up for it by blending beautifully and easily into the skin. Finally, the NARS Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder won't run out! I do prefer it as its finely milled but doesn't take the dimension away from the face when applied. It's also much easier to travel with a compact powder versus a loose powder, so definitely no spills with this! Lastly, I wanted to test how well the Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray (Oil Control) fared in cooler climates. It'll also be useful when I'm going around for the whole day as I need to worry less about my makeup melting.

I only took one blush and my contour powder, since I was planning to buy a cream blush anyway (more on that later). The NYX Powder Blush in Pinched is perfect for the summer because of its coral and pink tones, which also works well with nearly all of the lipsticks that I bought. I decided to bring the Too Cool for School Createur du Contour as my face tends to bloat a lot whenever I travel. It's something I've noticed in all the pictures of me from past trips, and I'm determined not to look like a ball this time around!

Eyes

I was a little more lenient with eyes because most items are very small and compact. Of course I brought the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette because I want to test its versatility in creating multiple looks. I also brought a single Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in Cosmopolitan because I am obsessed with the colour and I knew it would pair well with the other eyeshadows in the Cocoa Blend palette. I also brought along the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige in case I won't have time to do anything fancy. The Urban Decay Primer Potion is of course a must, because I do want my eyeshadows to last all day and not crease (something that still happens even when I'm in cold countries). 

I find that eyeliner makes such a big difference whenever I wear it, so I brought both the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner Micro and the Clio Kill Brown Brush Liner for variety and ease of use. The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (Waterproof) still hasn't gone bad on me, though if it does, I'm definitely going to pick up a new mascara while I'm here.

Lips

I remember asking Alex from The Red Eyeliner on the acceptable amount of lip products to bring while traveling, and she answered four including lip balm. Not going to lie, surprising answer considering how much she likes her lipsticks! I managed 5 lip products including lip balm (not featured due to embarrassingly beat-up packaging), though I did pick up the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment during my layover in Singapore (oops). 

I brought along the Golden Rose 2000 Lipstick for a nice red in case needed, along with the Etude House Play 101 Pencil in 21 as they pair well together. The MAC Lustre Lipstick in See Sheer goes everywhere with me now because it goes beautifully with warm eyeshadows, and isn't too stark like most corals. Finally, the Chanel Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle is my go-to lipstick on lazy days, or for when I want to look a little more presentable.

REVIEW: Too Cool for School Art Class by Rodin Createur du contour

Life update: I'm sorry for missing another weekly post! :( My laptop has been under repair for about a week now and might continue to be for another week or two. My battery has finally given out on me plus my internal hard drive died as well. Rest assured, all my blog pictures are safe, but things will be a little erratic for a while. Finally a review for this!

The Too Cool for School Art Class by Rodin Createur du contour is a three-coloured 'shading' powder used for defining the face. I used the term shading instead of contouring as Korea does a softer, much more natural version. I've heard and read that this powder is often sold out in Seoul, so that was an indicator for me that it was going to be good!

Packaging

What made me interested in this initially was the packaging. It is not only very slim and compact, which makes it great for travel, but it also is such a pretty design. For reference, Rodin is an artist, which is why TCFS made the packaging extra pretty. I really like it when brands put in a bit more effort into their packaging, because it makes the product more fun to have and use.

Pigmentation and Blendability

I find the pigmentation for this to be just right - not to pigmented that it would be hard for beginners to use, but it won't take ages to build up either. Its enough for beginners (like me!) to experiment with, but I would still recommend a light hand for the first few applications. 

It is also very buildable and blendable if you want to really get more definition, or if you've applied too much. Having three colours is also a perk as it allows for you to create a gradient of colour that I find looks more natural. Mixing the three colours together will give a very subtle contour that is great for warmer skintones as it looks more natural versus ashy contour powders.

I will say though that there is significant fall out in the pan when you get product with your brush. Its nothing a little extra taps of the brush can't fix, but those who are very particular about fall out will have to take note of this. 

It works especially well after a setting powder, as it just glides over the skin and can be buffed in if needed. If on bare skin, I find that more buffing and blending is needed. I don't go out without setting my makeup with a powder anyway, so this isn't a problem for me. It also doesn't go on patchy which is something I've experienced with a lot of cheaper cheek products in the past. 

Lasting Power

I would say this lasts about 5 hours at the least. After this, you will still see the colour, though it has already begun to fade. I find that it doesn't wear off badly after a hot day which is great considering I live somewhere very hot and humid. I think it will last longer if you use a setting spray on top. Do take into consideration that this is if I use a setting powder under. I tried it without and the wear time was much less.

  

Before any shading - just base makeup (Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation + NARS Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder) and curled lashes

With shading - slightly amped up to show on camera, but otherwise gives a very blended, soft shadow to the face

Price and Availability

I purchased this for 895PHP at Too Cool for School in SM Megamall. In Korea, it retails for 16000W, I believe, which is a little more expensive than brands like Etude House and The Saem. I do find that this is of higher quality than the aforementioned brands, and is still much cheaper than a lot of contour powders and bronzers from midrange to high-end Western brands.

Foundations Wish List

If you have read my blog for quite some time, you know that I am very particular about my base products (Proof: My make-up bag that Alex rummaged through and featured on her blog). Especially with foundations, I do a bit of extra research and take more time to determine whether or not the product is worthy of a purchase. I have a lot of specific wants when it comes to a foundation, so finding one that ticks the boxes is a rarity indeed. Nonetheless, here are some that I've been eyeing for a while (and hope to add to my daily routine)!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation (53 Beige Clair)

I have wanted this foundation for a good year now. I'm mentally kicking myself in the head for not being familiar with Bourjois when I was in Singapore last year because my friend and I were right at the counter looking at the stuff (_ _). I love how its the type of foundation that glides over imperfections as well as dry patches, seeing as I have a lot of that at the moment. This is currently on top of my beauty priorities list!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation (200 Soft Beige)

I'm genuinely interested in this foundation because of its sweat and humidity-proof claims. Seeing as I live in a very humid country with the most unpredictable weather (sunny and sweltering in the morning, stormy and flooding in the afternoon), a foundation like this would be great for days when I don't know what to expect, and when I need something that will really last. 

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation

Again, mentally kicking myself because I also went to a Tarte counter not once, but twice when I visited Sephora in Singapore. If I'm being honest, I'm pulled into this because of the hype. I do know that it claims to be both hydrating and sebum-absorbing, something I have never heard a foundation offer. I also want to try more Tarte products, and this seems like a good start!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

I'm very curious about this as the previous foundation received so much love in the past few years. It seems like a really great photo-ready foundation, which I currently do not have! I have also read that is it lightweight but has good coverage, and doesn't give a dewy finish - all things I look for! The reviews are very polar as of late, but its something that I'd love to try for myself to see whether it is good or not!

Happy Skin Zit Zapper Second Skin Creme

This is actually a local product! Happy Skin is one of the brands that I used to pass by in Beauty Bar, but after trying their Angled Blush Brush, I'm genuinely interested in trying their products. This one in particular has a good number of positive reviews as it is both a skin care and make-up product. I love that this one helps with acne - a product that is very lacking in the make-up department! If ever I have money to spare, I'll definitely pick this up.

Foundations Wish List

Birthday Make-Up

Another surprise! This is a little late, but I thought I'd share with you the make-up I wore for my birthday last week. Its currently the intersession semester at my uni, and my birthday unluckily fell on the day of a presentation. I only had about half an hour to freshen up and get ready for dinner after, so I think I was able to do my makeup under 10 minutes! This is already pretty quick for me because I normally take 20-30 minutes to do makeup, just because I find it very relaxing and also because I like my base make-up looking very perfected.

Base: Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Primer Essence + Jouer Matte Moisture Tint + Benefit Watts Up

Yes, this primer is back! My skin is much drier than a month ago (yay ;u;) and because the Jouer TM can emphasize dryness, I thought the primer would be good to counteract that and still bring a bit of hydration to the face. The result is very natural-looking skin that doesn't get too shiny even at the 6 hour mark! I couldn't be bothered with concealer because if I did, I would have never left the house.

Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion + Innisfree Mineral Single Cream Eyeshadow (04 Romance Burgundy) + Urban Decay Naked 2 - Chopper + Fairydrops Platinum/Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara

I wanted to focus more on the eyes for this look (not that you can see my eyeshadows very well because of my hooded lids) so I tried out my new Innisfree cream shadow for the first time! I only used a small amount so instead of coming out as burgundy, it appeared more like a copper with red undertones and gold shimmer. I toned it down even more with Chopper from my Naked 2 palette, and it would have been perfect if I had the time to apply a matte brown in the crease like Strapless from the Too Faced Natural Matte palette. Adding some mascara to my top lashes also helped balancing the eyeshadow out.

Lips: Nivea Med Protection Lip Balm SPF 15 + MAC See Sheer (Lustre)

I really like this new lip balm (purchased because of Danie from That Nugu's review) because it hydrates my lips even as the balm fades. I paired the eyes with See Sheer because I thought it would look more harmonious with the copper-y eye.

Birthday Make-Up

NEW IN: Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick (05)

Who hasn't heard of Kate Moss' collaboration with Rimmel, right? I wasn't around during the time she first released the Lasting Finish by Kate line, but I remember reading and watching all the blogs and YouTube videos on the lipstick in 107 (which was really big in the beauty blogger world around late 2012). Since updating myself on make-up a year later, I knew I had to try at least one of the lipsticks for myself. I did...almost two years later. Hah.

This updated Lasting Finish range by Kate claims to contain black diamonds that helps reflect light while on the lips, and is said to last for 8 hours. I don't know about diamond powder, but a lipstick claiming to last for 8 hours makes me very skeptical because it can mean that it would be very drying on the lips. Thankfully, this wasn't the case with this lipstick at all.

I got the shade 05 which is a slightly dark pink with a hint of red. Not the best colour description, I know. Alex from The Red Eyeliner (just the usual mention) describes it as a cerise pink in her review, which is much more pleasant to hear, so we'll use that for now. For me, the colour is both unique and nostalgic, because I rarely see drugstore brands come up with colours like this, and because this is a colour my mom used to wear a lot when I was first getting into make-up in high school.

On my lips, the colour comes out a little more red, especially when I build it up. This is probably due to the fact that I have pigmented lips, but otherwise it will apply true to the colour in the tube. I love this on me because it adds a bit of brightness to my face without being too bold of a colour. Also, because of the red undertones, I think it would be a very versatile colour for a range of skin tones. I say this because a lot of pinks have blue undertones, which seems to only suit those on the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to complexion. 

Its neither moisturizing nor drying, but it doesn't leave my lips shrivelled after a few hours, which is always a good sign. I prefer this kind of feeling because a creamy lipstick would transfer easily, and a long lasting lipstick would be murder on my dry lips. It dries down to a satin finish, and has pretty good staying power. I added two layers and blotted in between, which is why it managed to survive with a stain after a drink and a meal without leaving that horrid lipstick halo. I'm not sure about 8 hours, but it will definitely last you 4-6, give or take. 

I really love this lipstick and I'm so happy to have purchased it. I think I'll be getting one for my mom because she likes this colour. I'll also be checking more from this range if they have any more interesting colours that I could add to my collection! I hope you guys found this interesting if you're in the market for a red-toned pink lipstick.

February Favourites

Not going to lie, I had a particularly hard time picking this month's favourites. Using mostly the same products over and over again leaves little to talk about. Nonetheless, there were a few products that snuck into my daily makeup routine without my noticing. I've talked about most of them in previous posts, so in a way they are old new favourites, save for one.

This was also the month I switched things up and went for lighter bases. Whether its the fact that putting on too much was getting tiring, or that I wanted an extra 10 or so minutes sleeping, I opted for a base that felt light but didn't make me feel too conscious about the redness in my face or my spots. If anyone has any more base recommendations, let me know!

Benefit Porefessional

I now know that I cannot go without primer - it's as essential as BB Cream/Foundation is for me. With my skin getting oilier, I knew I had to put my Etude House Primer to the side for a while since that one is a little more hydrating. I've ignored this for a good few months but now it's a staple for me and I appreciate what it does for my makeup. I learned that its best not to use a lot of this, else any base on top tends to go patchy after a few hours. It doesn't feel heavy or make me feel like my skin is suffocating under it. I guess I can see why there's so much hype around this!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Another recurring favourite, but I felt like I finally learned how to use this properly this month. I wore very light bases, not caring much if my redness was completely covered, but used this to hide any evil spots. You also don't need a lot to cover things up, which is probably why this has lasted for so long even after using it almost everyday since June last year. I was debating on whether or not to repurchase, and now I think I will!

Benefit Watts Up

I got this in my first impulse haul and wear this on most makeup days. Whenever I forget to wear this I feel like my skin lacks a bit of luminosity, especially in the inner eye corner. It's a very blendable, easy to apply cream champagne highlighter that you won't need much of to add some brightness to your face. Definitely repurchasing the full sized one when I run out, but it seems like a long time before I do.

NYX Butter Gloss (Strawberry Parfait)

Giving you a bit of a spoiler for my Spring/Summer haul post! This is one of the first products I picked up because of all the recommendations from several beauty bloggers. I didn't expect this to be as great as it is but as soon as I tried it on I didn't go a day without wearing it! The colour is a really nice sheer fuchsia pink and the formula is really moisturizing. Highly recommended for an everyday wash of colour on the lips. Out of all the products I think this is my ultimate favourite this month!

February Favourites

October Favourites

Hi everyone and Happy Halloween!

I just wanted to make a quick post to share my October Favourites with you! I didn't wear much makeup this month as I didn't have the luxury of time due to all my exams, which led to breakouts. -_- I didn't want to stress my skin further by putting on make-up so most of what I'm going to talk about here is skin care. I've also traveled twice this month so the little samples I got from my purchases before in Seoul have definitely come in handy.

Mamonde Extra Moisture Emulsion

I liked this so much, I had my friend buy me the full-sized version! Its lightweight but still gives a good amount of hydration to my skin. I've been wearing just this at home (or I add sunblock if I'm going out) and it has been enough to keep my skin from feeling tight. Only downside is that it is scented, so I wouldn't recommend this for people with extremely sensitive skin. 

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack

This has been a lifesaver for the first half of this month, as I spent it sleeping late at night and waking up quite early. It helped prevent my skin from getting dehydrated and looking dull. As this is a 'sleeping' pack, I put this on at night 2-3 times a week to keep my skin hydrated and looking a little more alive than it would have without it. It doesn't surprise me that this has been their best seller for years!

NARS Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder

I don't know about you guys but there was a big learning curve for me in putting on setting powder. Regardless, this was a great first setting powder for me as it never looked cakey no matter how much I put on, and was almost invisible on the skin. It also did a great job in making my skin look flawless and poreless, which no powder I've tried has done yet. I use this with my Real Techniques Powder Brush as a last step to my routine and I'm almost hitting pan!

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit + YDK (Naked 2 Palette)

This is quite a different favourite as it's more of a favourite combination of two products. Though I haven't worn a lot of makeup this month, whenever I did I would always wear the Birthday Suit alone or in combination with YDK. I love the ease of cream shadows as well as the staying power, and the multi-dimensionality (if that makes sense) of YDK. It's slightly coppery which is probably why I love it so much.
