Introduction to Upper Liner

By the time this is up, I would have finished my thesis proposal defense. Its something that has made me scared out of my wits for months, so I will be very happy to be rid of the stress...for now. About time I shared a little tidbit about school, right?

I wanted to talk about coloured eyeliner today! With coloured liner being the new trend, as evidenced by both the runway and magazines, I thought I would share with you another fun way to go about it. I saw this on both my friend Alex from The Red Eyeliner (standard mention) and in several ads when I was in Seoul.

Upper liner is simply the addition of another liner in a different colour on top of your black or brown  eyeliner. It was what convinced me to purchase the mint eyeliner above and it is what still makes me want to buy more eyeliners in several colours in the future. I think I'll be purchasing more eyeliners next year!

What I like about upper liner is that its a fun way to wear colour without being too bold. Its for people who want to try wearing colour or who want to go in that direction, but are not ready to commit to something like solid blue eyeshadow. I just wanted to show you two ways on how I wear it and hope it gives you inspiration to try out upper liner for yourselves!

Neutral Upper Liner - Etude House Play 101 Pencil in 47 (Copper-bronze colour)

If you can't stomach wearing bright or pastel colours, I think that a neutral upper liner looks just as good! I really like this liner from Etude House as it is really opaque and creamy in one swipe. Having a neutral coloured-liner on top makes it a little more wearable but still a nice change from just having winged liner.

Pastel Upper Liner - Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pastel Upper Liner in 3 Mintade (Mint colour)

For those who are more willing to experiment, pastel liners are really pretty, especially for the spring! This pencil I used in particular is only released during the Spring & Summer by Clio, so I'm really happy to have it. It requires about 2 to 3 passes to become as opaque as the ad, but I don't mind as it comes out really pretty and lasts really well throughout the day.

And there you have it! This coloured liner trend has really made me want to collect more eyeliner not only for upper liner, but for liquid liner as well! Imagine a navy blue liquid liner with a mint liner on top? Or a gold liner on top? The possibilities are endless!

I hope you all enjoyed this rather different post from me. Feel free to also tell me what your take is on the coloured liner trend below!

  1. I've been having trouble with my 3CE liner that's in the same color as your Clio one :/ it's gotten very hard and while it is still pigmented you need a very firm hand to apply it ><

    1. Oh noooo sayang :c there's probably something in the formula that hardened it! If I find out a way to soften it I'll let you know!
