Now, I'm not as well versed with winged liner (or eyeliner in general for that matter) as Alex from The Red Eyeliner is (as evidenced by this post) but I do enjoy the attitude that a wing gives from time to time. I've mentioned this product in several posts, and eventually came to a conclusion that it deserves its own solo space for a rave on this blog. I've owned this liner for a good year now and I am so impressed and happy with it that I purchased a new one.
The Clio Kill Brown Waterproof Brush Liner was something I didn't plan on purchasing the first time, but after seeing so many ads when I was in Seoul, I thought I would give it a shot. I'll admit I didn't get on with it the first time, because it wasn't a buildable liner and it flaked a bit around my eyes. I stopped using it for a while and was really let down...until I tried it again. I've exclusively used brush liners in the past (this one from Kate and this one from Tony Moly specifically) but this has got to be the most long-wearing, most most affordable, and most durable liner I've tried so far.
If you're unfamiliar with brush tips, you need to try them asap! It lasts longer than a felt-tip, stays sharper for longer (no fraying here!), and is usually more pigmented. It also is pretty good for beginners, and this is coming from someone who has an on-off relationship with eyeliner.
The tip of this liner is very fine. Not as fine as the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner Micro, but much thinner than any felt tip could give. The repackaged version of the Clio eyeliner has an even finer tip, allowing a person more control as to how thin or thick they want the line to be. This is great for me personally as I prefer a thinner line near the tearduct area, and a thicker line on the other corner of the eye. It lets me softly line my eyes if I have limited time, or do a thick cat eye if I have the time (or confidence).
Packaging-wise, it has a spring in the cap that allows it to snap shut. This helps prevent the eyeliner from drying out and lets you use it for longer. I've had my first Clio Brush Liner since May 2014 and it still gives out a good amount of ink. I will recommend cleaning the tip, as it tends to harden as it accumulates more product. My old liner could have lasted even longer than a year this way!
I find that the pigmentation is also adjustable, but is mostly quite opaque. Pressing the liner on its side against your eyelid allows for a thicker, darker line, while a light brush or using the tip gives a light brown. The finish is more on the matte than the glossy side, and this could be a pro or con depending on your eyeliner needs. It does not layer well once dry, but I found this to be the case with a lot of popular eyeliners as well (e.g. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner).
I find that these last all day on me, whether or not I wear a primer underneath. I always prefer to wear an eye primer with it simply out of habit. I only experienced flaking once, but that was the early days of use, and has not happened since. The newer version did not give me this problem. It doesn't smudge on the eyelid too, which makes it great for those of us who suffer from this problem or have hooded eyelids. It may not be 100% waterproof on the hand swatch, but it is much more durable on the eyes. I've never swam with eyeliner on though, so I cannot speak on that matter.
I purchased this in Singapore for around 20SGD, from my memory. In Korea, I believe it retails for less than 18000 KRW. It usually comes with a sample size of another Clio product. Previously it was the O'Tank Mascara (a miss for me) but now it is their make-up remover. Its pricier than say, Etude House, but the quality is so much better. It is also cheaper than a lot of Western-brand brush liners. Those brands have their products made in either Japan or Korea anyway (just check the packaging)!
I've grown to love this eyeliner and would recommend it to anyone! Clio is a brand really known for their eyeliners and I'm really happy to have tried this.
